Title: Missing the Chatam
Artist: Geoffrey Moss
Country: USA
Work Date/Period: 2008

Description: Geoffrey Moss, Brooklyn born, Yale Art School graduate and self-proclaimed political conceptualist, offers a body of work that includes both modern and contemporary paintings as well as nationally recognizable political drawings. As stated by Geoffrey Moss recently: “My work is about what I believe I remember seeing. In each of my series, from my early compositions in black and white, to POOLSIDE, my current focus, to Icebergs, Optical Machines, or Chinese Acrobat Sofas, the process always begins with drawings, tens of drawings on paper to assure that what I intend seeing on canvas is accurate, void of extraneous symbols. When the work is ”right” it’s about intimate handwriting, as direct as writing my name. That mark, that gesture, combines to isolate one idea in the tradition of “American Painting,” the subject often centered, somehow familiar. The shapes are a personal architecture for me and are my reason for building with vivid colors. The energy of the paint is a record of where I’ve been in the process.”
