She has been painting and sculpting since the early 1960s. Her current work is predominately sculpture and study drawings that relate to the work in progress. Design and proportion provide an equal balance between stasis and movement and forms and symbols. Playful, totem-like, lightly colored wall-mounted sculpture and darker, hard-edged foreboding works are both equally represented. Limited, uniform color provides an invigorating presence with tension between graphic and sculptural elements. Gabriele permits freely associated, symbolic elements and gestures to enter into her work without pre-conceived intent.
